Booker Award Information

Mike Booker played on the 1988 and 1989 Buhler Football Team as an offensive and defensive lineman for the Crusaders. Mike lost his life in a motorcycle accident during the summer after he graduated from Buhler High School in 1990.

 

Coach Chuck Porter and Mike’s family decided to create a memorial award in Mike’s honor. The award became known as the “Booker Award." At the conclusion of each football season, the football players gather to vote on team awards, including this Booker Award.

The criteria established for the award are as follows:

 

• A player who is physically tough and plays without fear

• A player who is a good citizen

• A player who is a good student

• A player who is unselfish

• A player who is dedicated to the team

• A player who makes a significant contribution to the team
